On the opening day of the railway,Air Max 2009 Shoes, Joseph Locke was driving Rocket when it collided with, and fatally wounded, William Huskisson MP. Huskisson is widely acknowledged as the first death in a rail accident. Locke was shaken by this event,Nike Air Rejuven 8, but he was never blamed for the unfortunate accident.
With George and Robert Stephenson, Joseph Locke was instrumental in developing the Liverpool to Manchester Railway, the first commercial passenger railway in the World. He was a great advocate of the locomotive steam engine,Nike Shox Turbo Shoes, rather than fixed engines; where trains are propelled with a system of ropes. Together with Robert Stephenson he made a presentation to Parliament defending the value and importance of steam locomotive transport.

Joseph Locke was born in Attercliffe, Sheffield, England in 1805. His family moved to Barnsley, Yorkshire when he was five. After an education at Barnsley Grammar School, his father managed to obtain him an apprenticeship with George Stephenson in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
