It is claimed Pythagoras gave himself up to his pursuers so as not to violate a bean plant. The bean was held by some of his followers to contain the souls of the dead. The following recipe is said to exorcise even the shade of the Philosopherin his adopted Sicily.
The Philosopher in Sicily
Wash the beans. Chop the ends, string and half the beans. Put in a vegetable steamer, over boiling water. Cover for five minutes or until lightly crisp. Drain the beans and dip into cold water. Drain again.Mix the beans, fennel bulb, and bell pepper in a bowl; toss gently and set aside.Mix the minced garlic, lemon juice jordan spizike, olive oil, grated orange rind and season, as above, in a bowl; shake well. Pour over vegetables; toss gently to coat. Sprinkle with fennel leaves. Serve at room temperature.The Banquet of the Soul

Philosophers are fabled to be indifferent to food. According to Norman Malcolm cheap air max 95, Ludwig Wittgenstein “didn’t care what he ate as long as it was always the same.” He was rumoured to be a bread, cheese and cream buns man. Perhaps he had too much of the free July Viennese Rathaus concerts with their pavilions of international foods. Earlier, Diogenes was known for the simplicity of his food. A legend tells he was criticised for eating in public. Perhaps he did not know the Saray Restoran in his home town of Sinop, in particular the grilled fresh fish that would tempt any thinker into the crowd. Pythagoras held strict doctrines about eating. There are conflicting accounts as to what they were. Some claim he forbad the eating of animals, which were of service to man. Others, that he was a vegetarian. He should have tried his home island’s Aeizoia in Manolates with its lacto and Vegan-friendly organic Greek food with a salad and juice bar. The Menu is ninety per cent raw, featuring,traditional, but vegan dishes. It has outdoor seating in this beautiful hill town on Samos.
