Jack is given an assignment while laying low at the dilapidated flat in the deserted Italian village. He is to build a weapon for a female assassin, who of course, is beautiful. Having befriended a priest, he’s directed to a small garage nike shox clearance, owned by a local mechanic where in less than two minutes, he casually finds many of the parts needed to construct the high-powered, lightweight rifle. He’s able to acquire the remainder of needed parts through mail order. We don’t know if Jack has internet, uses Amazon, or just knows how to get what he needs, but again we don’t question it because we’re waiting for the movie to get better.
Seemingly shaken up after the fiasco in Sweden, Jack heads to Italy as instructed by Pavel, the man he apparently works for. The countryside that Jack ends up in is not the breathtaking Under the Tuscan Sun kind of countryside that makes you want to sell your worldly possessions and move there, but it has charm just the same. You wonder if like Jack, all the village denizens are in hiding , because you rarely see more than one or two people at a time. Jack sleeps with his gun on his chest in a crumbling apartment with peeling walls and very little furniture. The only thing that the flat has going for it is the sturdy bar across the doorway that Jack uses to keep female audience members happy by doing shirtless chin-ups.

Few Redeeming Qualities
The movie is slow moving from the opening scene. The lack of a loud frantic score is a welcome change from most action movies and subsequently, the theatre is often quiet due to the fact there is little dialogue between characters. The scenery is beautiful at times, but can’t make up for the ridiculous plot, slow pace and unanswered questions.
The American's Plot Has Little to Offer
Dutch director Anton Corbijn gives us an unmemorable movie in the low budget film, The American We first meet Jack (Clooney) in Sweden. We don’t know if he lives there or if he’s there on assignment. We don’t know who tries to kill him Shox R4 sneakers, why, or if the beautiful woman he’s with has tipped anyone off but we do know things go wrong. Because George Clooney is a well-seasoned actor with many excellent films to his name, we accept that we don’t need answers right away, thinking perhaps we might get them later. We don't.

Of course there is a love interest for Jack. She is Clara, a prostitute and no surprise here; she's beautiful. The village may only have one or two café’s and people are rarely seen in the streets, but it appears that it can support a village bordello that has pretty hookers. Jack finds comfort and solace through Clara and Clara is hopeful from the onset that Jack might be the one she’s been looking for to take her away from her shallow existence.
