The firearms industry has wide use of this particular hardening process, to achieve higher tensile strength of metal and ensure accuracy as well as toughness. Even the automotive industry has ample use of the case hardening process to render tough and heavy duty metal, mostly for suspension purposes. Again, camshafts and special-purpose self-drilling screws are required to be case hardened. The process is relatively simpler for smaller items like screws and fasteners, because they can be hardened by repetitively heating and quenching.
