Chris Johnson, Troy Polamalu Jersey Provide Showdown of NFL's Best
When the Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Tennessee Titans, it's normally a battle of wills. Who will break by giving up a big play and which defense won't quit? The Steelers lead the all-time series at 38-29, dating back to 1970, but the Titans are 18-15 at home against them and have won 10 out of their last 14 regular-season matchups.
The Titans don't have to worry about Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who is serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, but they must be concerned about secondary stud Troy Polamalu Jersey. Titans quarterback Vince Young is coming into his own as the leader for his team using his legs and arm and Troy Polamalu Jersey will be keying on his every move, baiting him to throw his way at some point of the game.
Quarterback Dennis Dixon will be the starting signal caller for the Steelers and he will be more relaxed Sunday afternoon. The Steelers defensive line, however, can't afford to relax because they will face the league's best running back in the dynamic Chris Johnson, who wants to achieve 2,500 rushing yards this season. Well, Johnson will need to average 167 rushing yards in each of the next 15 games. But the Steelers only allow 58 yards rushing per game. Someone has to give, so who?
The Steelers' defense must play lock down D again on Sunday. The veteran squad, led by linebacker James Harrison, who has the Steelers undefeated at 8-0 when he has two or more sacks in a game, has experienced success against Johnson dating back to last season when they held him to only 57 yards rushing. If they are successful again, the Steelers will force Young to throw the ball which would play into the hands of the Troy Polamalu Jersey-led secondary.
Johnson controls everything for the Titans. If Johnson has a big game, the Steelers will be subject to the play-action game of the Titans which will make Young's performance even better. Stop or control Johnson, and the Steelers may go 2-0.
Whether Johnson and the Titans are performing well or not, keeping them off the field is critical. And the Steelers can do that if they continue to be patient with running back Rashard Mendenhall. The Steelers are successful in most cases when they are running the ball well and eating up the clock. Mendenhall gives the Steelers that opportunity and if he's running well, Dixon can move the ball.
