A Look at Why Breastfeeding Helps Children Maintain a Healthy Weight
In the study, researchers analyzed and compiled current indirect and direct costs of all pediatric diseases for which the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported risk ratios that favored breastfeeding: ear infection, atopic dermatitis,Nike Blazer, sudden infant death syndrome, childhood asthma, childhood leukemia, type I diabetes and childhood obesity. Type 2 diabetes was not included in the analysis due to lack of data.

Another possibility relates to blood insulin levels. Researchers have observed that infants fed formula have higher levels of insulin and a more prolonged insulin response compared to breastfed infants. Breastfeeding-Related Cost Savings: Study Results
