Post subject: Backpacking Food - What To Bring
the Sierra Nevada I ate more than 60 granola bars in 5 days with no ill effects. No furnace averaged a lighter pack, and it was very convenient to not cook. Of lesson, I usually supplement my backpacking diet with berries and other brutal foods, so it probably wasn't entire that unhealthy.
Different Foods For Different Backpackers
Each of us is unique. I don't suffer while I have not cooked meals, but you may. There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution to the backpacking food question. You must balance the weight/health/taste/cost issues in your own way. Consider the retinue points, though, in making your choices.
The lightest food is that which has the most calories per ounce. Pure portly triumphs the contest (fuels), followed at high-fat foods (nuts), low moisture carbohydrates (granola bars), proteins (meat jerky), and then bread, fruit, veggies, etc. Nuts, for example, for of their portly content, have 50% more calories per pound than pure sugar.
Look by the lables. Choose foods you like, but prefer the ones that are higher in calories for their weight. In namely way, you get what you want, what your body absences because vigor, and you reserve it light. I routinely intend for almost 3000 calories a daytime. This isn't very enough (I'm 6'3", 160 pounds), so I'll lose a pound alternatively two on a weekend trip.
Bringing high-calorie foods like mingled nuts (2700/pound) and tortilla chips (2100/pound),

, I can get by with about 20 ounces of food per day. For a four day trip I'll carry around 5 pounds. Eat a big meal before you go, and you can carry less food (notwithstanding you'll carry it inside you yet). You can slit weight if you know which berries to eat along the track. I've eaten one entire repast of rasberries during one wreck while hiking in Colorado.
Healthy Backpacking Food
For a healthier trip, try this: Eat a great salad right ahead you leave,

, and right later you get back. If you too eat berries and herbs forward the way, you can concentrate on sending only light backpacking food, and your health won't undergo.
A more apparent alternative namely to spend some money. Enough money, and you can feast ashore nutrition-packed, calorie-rich foods the whole period you are hiking. Try bee pollen, spirolina, raw nuts and seeds, molasses, dried papaya - I could go aboard, but you get the idea.
Finally, don't forget the freeze-dried meals and other orthodox backpacking foods. They are no necessasrily healthy, and can be quite priceless, yet they sure are handy and luscious. You tin always package ramen noodles if you absence cheap edible.
