Post subject: jordan 11 chilly grey Working with The Killer Chas
Now in his 74th year, Jerry Lee Lewis, one of the "founding fathers of rock 'n' coil," continues to record and fulfil. Over the years, his life and music have the been the subject of much dispute, perusal and controversy, but against entire the odds, he has done what many of his early peers failed to do, and survived.
In the early '60s, Chas Hodges was playing with manifold bands nigh the London club scene, and was lucky enough to get to encounter and work with his dulcet hero. His recent tour with his current kit, Chas & His Band, even includes a Jerry Lee tribute.
"His predictable unpredictability. When The Outlaws (an of Chas's early groups) in 1963 backed him aboard tour he brought his own drummer, Maurice Tarrant, who I would say was the best drummer Jerry Lee ever had (individually from Micky Burt). Me, Mick and Kenny Lovelace backed Jerry Lee by Kempton Park in 1967. Jerry Lee said later, that Mick was the best drummer hed ever played with.
Suite 101: Apart from Jerry Lee, who has had the most inspire on you and your music?
Jerry Lee stated in the early days that he didnt like The Beatles. This was typical Jerry Lee - whether the crowd went onward with it, he didnt. But at one of the gigs on that tour at soundcheck time on came The Beatles' latest record, Please Please Me. Whos this? said Jerry Lee. The Beatles, said I. Good record! said Jerry Lee.
"I was lucky enough to be on the road with Jerry Lee at the peak of his profession talent-wise. His piano playing and stage performance in 63 have never been better, before or since. I had began apt study piano by hearing to his records ahead this tour and was 'coming on

"My mama namely number one. She was a ego taught but a large melodic/ragtime neatness piano athlete. My father committed suicide by shotgun when I was four. She brought us up, me, my sibling and sister playing gigs in the unions and pubs of North London. Jerry Lee Lewis made her nightmares come true. Until I saw Jerry Lee I was merely interested in guitar - he made me absence to be a piano athlete.
Suite 101: What was it favor creature on the road with him? Any amusing stories? When was the last time you saw him?
My Jerry Lee tribute speck varies. I meander via stories which may or may not guide up to a particular anthem. For instance

, I may narrate a article of the maximum gigs Ive ever done in one daytime - 6 in Berlin with Jerry Lee in 63. Then do a anthem hes never done badly, pissed or sober, You Win Again."
Suite 101: What was it approximately Jerry Lee Lewis that you especially liked? Which of his songs do you play in your Jerry Lee Tribute?
She dearly wanted me to activity piano and my main instrument today is piano. A close second is guitar which was my premier instrument, but seeing Jerry Lee Lewis in my home town of Edmonton, North London in 1958 made me want to chance a pianist. Guitar players? There are numerous but effectively Chet Atkins, Eddie Bush, and Charlie Christian."

On Tour with Jerry Lee
In 1963 the Outlaws drummer was Mick Underwood. He said to me at the time that he wouldnt like to back Jerry Lee as you never know what hes going to do afterward. It struck me then that thats exactly why I DO like him.
