Post subject: Nike Shox Turbo shoes Hundred Year Storm Interview
HYS: I guess we always set out to write epic songs. One of my desires is for our music to really take the listener on a journey and for them to really feel the music. We try to write songs that come out of our hearts and are full of passion. It’s difficult to explain but sometimes there are songs that just hit you right in the gut, and your response is like, wow, there is something deep about that song. Then you start asking questions about it. If one of our songs causes people to start asking questions then we have succeeded.
HYS: I think a lot it stems from us knowing what we like and not really caring if it doesn’t fit a certain genre. That’s another reason the album has so much diversity on it. We write what we like and we like all kinds of stuff. We don’t limit ourselves and we don’t try to fit songs into molds. If it feels like a songs needs words we add them but only if the song needs it. If a song only has 7 words and one repeating line that’s ok.
Suite: I also enjoyed the quirky Florence Nightingale looping on the new “Hello” project. How did you end up there?
It’s hard. When we are on the road we try to pray together as a band. We often will go to church with people we meet on the road. I try do read challenging books on the road that keep my mind focused on the truth. Overall, it’s just by grace that we make it and we have a lot of people praying for us. The road is a crazy place and is not for those who are weak in their faith. I have seen it d
One listen to their new Floodgate Records project, “Hello From the Children of Planet Earth,” says it all. Guitarist/vocalist Bill McCharen was happy to fill us in on the band’s innovative sound.
HYS: Usually we take it one song at a time. We haven’t really tried writing a concept record or anything like that. Of course we always have ideas for new songs and try to keep it fresh by taking different approaches to the writing process. We practice in our garage so the style of music is probably directly related to the temperature outside. You know, it just kind of depends on the weather.
Musically speaking

, I love so many bands and have been influenced tremendously by so many of them. I starting buying tapes in 4th grade and have had an ear for good rock music for a long time. A few of the bands that really influenced HYS are Explosions in the Sky, Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate

, The Prayer Chain, etc….I could keep going but the point is any band playing good space rock in the last decade probably played a part in formation of our music.
Suite: When you set out to do a new album do you have something specific in mind?
Suite: Your band reeks of independence, of straight-up think-for-yourselves songwriting. To what do you attribute this strong streak of individualism?
Suite: How do you keep your focus on God while dealing with touring, recording, and the general musician’s world?
HYS: We work really closely with our producer David Dreesen at Jacket Weather Studios and he is brilliant. He came up with the idea of adding Florence. It is one of the first audio recordings ever made and it symbolized breaking new ground and doing new stuff, which is what that song is about.
Suite: Your new project has an epic feel to it, a space odyssey feel. What has been your primary musical influence in your songwriting?
