Post subject: gucci for sale Mike Portnoy Leaves Dream Theater
These complex musical studies were often coupled with lyrics that were immersed in deep psychological or philosophical themes of existentialism, dream sequences, varying degrees of insanity, mourning, reincarnation, seeking encouragement to live with a terminal illness, obsession, phenomenology…etc. Even some of their songs with themes of love were dissected from a unique angle.

Portnoy's Complaint: Book Review
Chi Cheng Benifit Concert January 16th
The truth is the emotional ingenuity that has once defined Dream Theater (not to mention

, separate them from the pack of progressive rockers) seems to have faded through time. The last two albums
Systematic Chaos
and
Black Clouds and Silver Linings,
have lost much of the content depth that their earlier work has (with a possible exception of
In the Presence of Enemies
and
The Best of Times
– the latter of which is dedicated to the memory of Portnoy’s father), as the songs were surrounding demons and monsters (an unnecessary dive into power metal territory) and Hitchcock style thriller mysteries.
The last album’s musical approach was especially disappointing, as many of the themes and ideas seemed to be recycled from earlier material.
The Shattered Fortress
was to be the ending installment to a series of songs (the
Twelve-Step Suite
), spanning from the
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
record in 2002, that mimics the twelve steps alcoholic rehabilitation program that Portnoy went through. The last song in the suite just featured reprisals of the earlier songs in the saga, with very little original material (except maybe the last two minutes). While the theme reprisal is a
All of that is about to change. The drummer and frontman of the five-man group, Mike Portnoy, has announced on the 8th of September, 2010, that after 25 years he is leaving the band. In his departure press release, he has mentioned that he has recently “come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in Dream Theater…” The dreams of many fans across the world that this band will once again push the envelope and create music with such passion that matches the Classical and Romanticist comes crashing down.
They were among the few bands who sought to combine their seemingly profound understanding of the different musical genres – blending heavy metal aggressive

, with symphonic organization.
With every coming record, fans rushed into the music stores excited to listen to how the band has evolved since their previous work. Their music was looked at as an emotional journey rather than a collection of songs – one that cleanses the listeners’ souls and feeds the mind with rich music and deep meaning.
With releases like
Images and Words, Scenes From a Memory,
and
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence,
Dream Theater has continuously pushed the musical envelope; experimenting with complex musical ideas of harmony, counterpoint, time signatures, atonality, mathematical loops, song formation and organization, emotional content versus mathematically derived music, arrangement…etc.
Their break up song
Space Dye Vest
is told through the voice of an obsessive individual who is suddenly infatuated by a model he saw in a magazine; realizing that his unusual obsessive state is due to his recent bad break up, as his subconscious is looking for an excuse to feel good about himself once again.
