As if to complete full circle the current line up is also in its original trio form! And not since The Band or perhaps The Carpenters, has a pop drummer (Debbi Peterson) done such a good job at taking their fair share of the vocals. Ireland's own Saw Doctors said once ‘I’d love to kiss The Bangles’ – I personally would second that, but perhaps specify that the beautiful Ms Susanna Hoff would be my first choice.

The Who - Greatest Hits Live - CD Review
What is St Patrick's Day in Dublin Like?
But it would appear not. Tonight the Bangles held together a tight set of jangling guitar songs, old and new, with spritely solos and an intense melee of punk meets intelligent pop. Their place in pop music is assured. Perhaps because of their gender, unfortunately they will never scale the heights of established ‘classic’ pop of the Beatles or even Take That, but they certainly deserve this accolade – both as song writers and performers. Even their selection of tunes defied simple pop classification.
In keeping with the spate of reunion tours for the 21st century – The eighties pop sensations the Bangles returned to Dublin. They have now played here more times as a ‘reunion’ band than the original entity. Indeed their reunion guise has now also been together longer (1999 – present) than their first outing 1982 – 1989. Surely the world should rightly be sick of reunion tours and recycling of ultimately old songs?
Obvious hits were present in their set as they stormed on stage with their alternative but better know rendition of the classic Simon and Garfunkel ‘Hazy Shade Of Winter’. Also early on we were treated to their definitive version of the Prince penned ‘Manic Monday’.
Enough already with the reunion tours ?
The Bangles are about to commence on an Australian tour with another classic retro queen – Pat Benatar, but before that, they warmed up in the Irish Capital, Dublin. But despite the warm up title, they seemed anything but rusty. Playing tracks both old and new – from their classic late 80’s success right up to tracks from the next album

, still currently in the pipline and tonights track bodes well for the future.
With tributes to Alex Chilton and Big Starr (‘September Gurls’) and perhaps more surprisingly a clashing guitar driven climax of the garage heroes The Seeds ‘Pushin Too Hard’.
The setlist was largely unchanged since their last Dublin date, except for a track from their next album – but the whole evening also captured the same level of excitement and joy as previously. This band obviously still love performing live and confess to having a special place in their hearts for Ireland. From the fun had tonight
