His project is called The Healthy Vending Selections Project. Though not a particularly marketable title, his description represents what might happen if people who stop to buy these convenient snack foods are provided some guidance on their eating actions. Which is why Dr. Garson elected to use a traffic signal logo to promote the project. It allows his team to rate foods from low-fat healthy items that are safe to proceed with (Green) to moderately high saturated fat items where caution is advised (Yellow) to screech-to-a-halt, don&rsquo;t-you-dare-go-forward overloaded fat and calorie servings (Red). <br />On the other hand <a href="http://www.cheapkicks2011.com/nike_air_jordan/air_jordan_13_xiii" target="_blank">nike jordan 13</a>, this project is not true to the full ideas of empowerment that young people themselves often advocate. The labeling of the foods regarding their degree of healthiness is a good start in that people can see the information they need to make smart decisions. But the nickel charge is mandatory and punitive in nature. <br />Identified machines carry a representation of the logo and an explanation of the project <a href="http://www.cheapkicks2011.com/nike_air_max/nike_air_max_95" target="_blank">nike air max 95</a>, as shown on the graphic. The individual products themselves are also marked. Interestingly, however, the good doctor didn&rsquo;t stop there. Not forgetting the power of the purse, the Virginia team decided to attach a purchasing surcharge of 5 cents on red items. There is, after all, much affirmation that Americans as a whole (and particularly low-income Americans) go to fast-food outlets in part because their “value” meals are both available and affordable. Adding a nickel to the coast of the bad products should make the less expensive, nutritious items more appealing. <br />WILL IT WORK? <br />THE HEALTH VENDING SELECTIONS PROJECT <br />NOT AS EMPOWERING AS IT MIGHT BE <br />But does the idea work? CNN noted its uniqueness, sufficient to raise interest by others who will undoubtedly test its potential. Dr. Garson himself believes the preliminary results are encouraging. Noticeable reductions in the purchase of red items occurred, and were matched by increased purchases of the rainbow of healthier options. <br />Other involvement models for social change suggest that if communities and food outlets worked cooperatively they could create a voluntary nickel-a-meal project. Under this option, the power of the purchaser is even greater as his or her cents for social change are captured and then knowingly used to promote empowerment strategies that give everyone a much wider voice in overall food policies. Evidence with social justice and community action initiatives clearly suggests that people do better at improving their lives when they are directly invited to the table where <br />Just as interesting, however <a href="http://www.cheapkicks2011.com/nike_air_jordan/jordan-2011" target="_blank">cheap jordan 2011</a>, is that this project unlike other anti-obesity campaigns doesn&rsquo;t rely just on people changing their own personal habits.
