The Perfect Dinner and a Show Combination in New York. <br />Although it can be said that life moves fast in NYC, New Yorkers have a lot of respect for the history of their hometown. It would nice to have every visitor New York say thank you for that. The ‘21’ club in Manhattan is a great example of a place that people have strived to preserve and celebrate. At 80 years old this year, 21, as it is most commonly known, is within walking distance of Broadway’s famous theatres. Back in 1920, when prohibition began, cousins Charlie Berns and Jack Kriendler entered the flourishing speakeasy business. The club opened in the early morning of the 31st of December, 1929 and has never looked back. If you have only one dinner slot on your next New York or Broadway vacation make sure you pencil in 21. The story goes that Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall had their first dinner-date there. Ernest Hemmingway and gangster Legs Diamond’s girlfriend were caught “cooking” in the kitchen back in 1931. 21 is a perfect accompaniment to a Broadway theatre trip with its dramatic and long history. <br />How To Take A Broadway Theater Break Without Wearing Yourself Out <br />Your vacation plan for New York is a week filled with Broadway, Broadway and a little more Broadway. But like many people, you have a budget and not limitless reserves of energy. Firstly, don't over plan. Your accommodation must be booked and meal costs accounted for,<a href="http://www.onfootwear.com/supra-vulk-low-33/" target="_blank">Supra Vulk Low</a>, but keep your theater schedule fairly open to improvisation. Once you are in Manhattan, reviews, advertising and local buzz will open your eyes to new shows that you will be happy you have plenty of free time to schedule in. But you don't need to waste energy walking from theater to theater in search of a seat, just walk to TKTS in Duffy Square (at the corner of 47th Street and Broadway). The TKTs booth sells same-day tickets for all the Broadway theaters and at 25%-50% of the regular admission price. Theaters release new tickets to TKTS throughout the day so you don't have to be there at opening time to make sure you have a seat for a show that night. If you have plans away from the theater one night, take in a matinee show. Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm most theaters have a day time show,<a href="http://www.onfootwear.com/supra-skylow-12/" target="_blank">Supra Skylow</a>, that will leave you free to really relax at one of New York's fine restaurants. And remember, Broadway theaters are closed for business on Monday, which makes it a good day to arrive in New York and get your bearings before a song and dance filled week. <br />The Statistics of Broadway. <br />Even when it comes to the mathematics of Broadway, it is a spectacular place. Close to $940 million came through the doors of Broadway’s theatres during the 2007-2008 show season. And that’s just ticket sales. That doesn’t include all the money that floods into the theatre district to pay for visitor’s meals and hotels rooms. 2009 looks to be almost as profitable. The theatre district of Manhattan is defined as being the section of 41st to 53rd Streets between 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue.
