A Short List of Soviet War Crimes
There are three main reasons why no government of
Dictator Josef Stalin, NKVD (secret police) chief Lavrentiy Beria, political commissar (and later Soviet leader) Nikita Khrushchev and Marshal Georgy Zhukov puma suede, among others, were responsible for either ordering, encouraging or simply ignoring the atrocities. Why No Soviet Official Was Ever Brought to Trial
1. Katyn Forest Massacre: The first and most infamous of Soviet war crimes took place some nine miles north-west of Smolensk, Russia. There. The NKVD executed at least 4,253 Polish officers taken prisoner during 1939. About 10,000 prisoners, mostly Polish officers too, from other camps disappeared the following year. The misdeed was kept secret until 1943, when the German Army discovered the tombs at Katyn and used the incident for propaganda.
When informed of what was going on, Stalin replied that he would allow his men to have “fun” with the women.
Women Were Particular Victims
More than two million German women were raped, some multiple times, by Red Army troops. No woman between 13 and 70 was safe. The brutality of the Soviet soldiers was particularly acute and systematic in Berlin.
As the Soviet forces closed on Germany from late 1944 to mid 1945, Red Army soldiers perpetrated unspeakable acts of cruelty on German women.
3. Ukraine Prisons Massacres: About 4,000 Polish and Ukrainian political prisoners were killed from June 22 to 29 puma ferrari, 1941, during the hasty Soviet retreat due to Operation Barbarossa. The bodies, many mutilated, of the inmates were found in the rubble of prisons that had been set on fire. Soviet jailers also threw hand grenades into the cells to make sure there were no witnesses left. The German women were not the only sexual victims of the Soviet soldiers. In Austria between 70,000 and 100,000 women were violated; 50,000 to 200,000 in Hungary and unknown totals in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Romania. Even Russian women liberated from prison camps were subjected to abuse.

2. Broniki Murders: About 180 Wehrmacht soldiers surrendered to the Soviets near Broniki, a village of Central Poland on July 1, 1941. Most were wounded. That same day, Red Army soldiers made them take their clothes off and took their uniforms, boots, watches, rings and money and then machine gunned them. A dozen Germans survived by running into nearby woods. On the morning of July 2nd, 153 bodies and the 12 survivors were discovered by another German unit.
Many women were found dead and mutilated – breasts cut off, genitals debased – after the soldiers were done with them. The women’s parents, husbands and/or other members of the family were usually forced to watch. It was a way of cowering the men of occupied territories
