puma running shoes The Ancient Roman Games puma go |
|
Although the Roman Empire was a military state, the vast majority of ordinary Romans did not actively bear arms due to strictly-enforced class distinctions, which nonetheless cemented their superiority complex over other peoples. The Games afforded Romans with the opportunity to express their patriotism and nationalism puma running shoes, where they were permitted to vote collectively to either pardon or condemn defeated gladiators since all gladiators were deemed to be social inferiors.
Woven into this human drama too was political influence wielded by the Roman populace who felt empowered by the knowledge that their emperor’s popularity, longevity and actions hinged on his subjects’ approval or disapproval. This attitude was possibly a holdover from the Res Gestae Divi Augusti puma golf, in which Augustus wrote, “In … [28-27 BCE], … after receiving by universal consent the absolute control of affairs, I transferred the republic from my own control to the will of the senate and of the Roman people.”
Phenomena of Mass Bonding
It would certainly be tempting to revile ancient Rome’s fascination with the Games at the Colosseum and to deride the Games as vulgar, barbaric and abhorrent. However, it would be presumptuous to impose today’s seemingly civilised moral codes and ethics on the macabre gladiator combat, violent animal hunts and savage human executions in the arena without fully comprehending the wider cultural, societal and political context of that bygone era. Both parties fully understood that the monarch did not enjoy absolute rule despite his exalted position, for the balance of power could easily be upset and tipped over leading to mob violence and revolt, which might very well end in the emperor's assassination. Although the rigid social stratification of Roman society was overt and obvious from the segregated seating arrangement in the Colosseum, common Roman folks were undaunted despite knowing their place in the pecking order for they were determined to exercise their equal right, superiority and privilege as Roman citizens to take their seats in the Colosseum as a matter of course.
Affirmation of Roman Superiority
Political Influence of Roman Plebeians
Obligatory Imperial Roman Patronage
Consequently puma suede, these deadly public gatherings gave rise to a contagious form of merged universal identity that would have drawn Romans to the Games in droves, where they banded together in a show of strength and power, akin to the crowd dynamics at football matches today, in which whole stadiums of fans chant ditties in support of their own team and in revulsion of the opposing team. The charged atmosphere and excitement of being in such a huge crowd stimulates and enhances a sense of unity of “us” versus “them”. Thus, the ancient Romans acted as a cohesive single entity when facing down (from the safety of the stands) the gladiators, slaves and condemned prisoners.
Accordingly, Romans sought symbolic proof of their emperor’s omnipotent ability to protect them from harm and enforce the rule of law against marauders of all persuasions. This subliminal need for constant reassurance of their safety and well-being was probably critical for the people’s peace of mind. The sight of criminals and exotic animals being put to death in the arena assuaged all doubts and reinforced the public’s confidence that if their emperor could engineer such wild and gruesome spectacles, he must surely be capable of ke
