The deltoids (shoulders) consist of the anterior [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lateral, and posterior heads. This group facilitates a wide range of motion involving the upper arms in relation to the body.
The arms contain some of the smallest voluntary muscles in the body, and for this reason it is often helpful to exercise larger groups. While this may seem counter-intuitive, working the legs can have (for example) a powerful impact on the biceps and abdominals. Taking in proper amounts of vitamins, minerals, protein, and supplements such as creatine is also a determining factor.
The forearms work when moving the wrists. These are usually developed fully without need for special attention.
Bulk and definition can be added to the deltoids using the military press exercise. This is performed by raising the arms above the head, and can be likened to a handstand push-up.
The anterior deltoid rests at the front of the shoulder. It is worked with the upward lifting motion of the arm in front of the body, as well as the forward pressing motion common to chest exercises.
Triceps consist of the lateral, medial, and long heads. Together they form an upside-down 'V' on the rear of the upper-arm. The function of the triceps is to straighten the arm at the elbow, and specific definition of heads is usually accomplished by holding the wrist in different positions during this movement.

The lateral, middle [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], deltoid faces to the outside of the body and can be worked with the sideways lifting of the arm. It can also be exercised in combination with the other deltoids.
Biceps, to the front of the upper arm, consist of a long and short head. They are worked when the wrist is raises from a straight arm position to the shoulder. Different definition is accomplished, because different muscles in this grouping are worked, when the palm is positioned upward (imagine using a hammer) versus sideways during the curling movement.
The body is a machine, and it's aim is to work as a unit. When a large amount of muscle is exercised the fat-loss benefits can be staggering, and they end result is an anabolic increase over the entire body. Blood has to be pumped at an enormous rate to supply large muscles with oxygen, which induces vasodilation [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the production of hormones such as hGH is increased as well.
The posterior deltoid performs the backward motion of the arm, and it is the rear-most of the deltoids. It is often worked with exercises of the back such as rows and chin-ups.
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles which rotates the arm to the rear and provides shoulder stability. The teres minor of the back could fall into this group depending on the type of classification used. They can be worked with a reverse-flye motion (extending the arms to the front of the body and then pulling to the rear on the same vertical plane).
