How to Compliment Personal Coloring
Women with a warm skin tone can wear warm colors (and women with cool skin tone should wear cool colors). Forget what you learned in school about red and yellow being warm colors and green and blue being cool colors – there is a lot of variation to basic colors. Warm colors have a golden undertone; cool colors a blue undertone. Compare different shades of red or blue at the clothing store (or the paint store) to learn the difference.

A woman can determine if she should were clothing with a golden or blue undertone by looking at her skin in daylight. Start with no makeup on and hair pulled back from the face. Bring a mirror near a window on a sunny day (or open the curtains wide). Hold a piece of plain white paper next to the face. Skin tone is considered warm if it looks yellow-orange. The complexion is cool if it looks pinkish next to the white paper.
Can’t tell? Hold the paper next to the cheek and look at a hand mirror that blocks out extraneous details like eye color, lips, clothing, etc. Still can’t tell? Ask a friend with wonderful color sense.
