Paithani
Brocades are textiles where patterns are created in weaving by transfixing the pattern-thread between the warp. There is a certain kind of magic created with the interweaving of thread in the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) strands. In regular weaving, the weft thread passes over and under the warp thread regularly. In brocade, special threads are transfixed in between, by skipping the passage of the regular weft over a certain number of warp threads and by regularising the skipping by means of prearranged heddles for each type of patterning.
Balucar
The village of Paithan is famous for this special kind of sari with gold borders and pallav, which has silk-brocaded motifs. With a base of gold, the motifs in coloured silk threads are of geese, parrots, peacocks and stylized leaves.

Brocade designs can be made from gold [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], silver [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], silk or cotton threads. Brocades adorn the traditional sari of India in many rich exquisite designs. Depending on the nature of patterning, there are two broad classes of brocades:
Traditionally woven in Bengal, the eastern state of India and parts of Northern India, this is the "figured muslin" and one of the finest weaves of the Indian loom. Cotton fabric is brocaded with cotton and sometimes zari threads. Traditional motifs are floral [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like chameli (jasmine), genda buti (marigold motif), pan buti (leaf motif). Corner motifs with mango paisley are a popular and exquisite design.
