Actor Performances in Charlie St. Cloud
Charlie St. Cloud, which was released in North American theaters on July 30, 2010, is a drama and romance film based on the novel The Death and Life oc Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood. The film is directed by Burr Steers and stars Zac Efron,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Charlie Tahan, Amanda Crew and Augustus Prew. Charlie St. Cloud also has appearances by acclaimed actors Ray Liotta and Kim Basinger.
Charlie Tahan gave possibly the best performance of the film as Sam. He is a snarky little upstart that makes better jokes than pretty much everyone else in the movie. Amanda Crew plays Tess, the love interest and moving force for Charlie that is supposed to help him move on from the fateful car accident. Unfortunately, her performance does not live up to the description of the character. She is simply forgettable in this film; more of a prop than a person.
The relationship between Charlie and and Tess follows the popular pattern of unrealistic romance that has been set out by films like Twilight (the two quote e e cummings in unison). Charlie is always ultra well-mannered,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even when guzzling scotch and, like always, crying. The two make passionate love in a foggy graveyard and somehow don't wake up dirty or cranky from sleeping on the wet ground.
General Impressions of Charlie St. Cloud
The inevitable supernatural twist was unexpected but made the love scene that happens before the big reveal just a little bit creepy. The final goodbye between Charlie and Sam seemed almost cheesy in its execution, which cut down some of the emotion in the relationship between the brothers and the film in general. The ending works and ties up any loose ends in the story, meaning that there fortunately will be no Charlie St. Cloud 2.
The Storyline of Charlie St. Cloud
Overall, the film was just okay. It had some very emotional parts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], specifically when Efron's Charlie discovers that his brother had died in the car accident he survived, but the rest of the film will leave audiences unmoved and underwhelmed. In the beginning of the film, it looks promising. The exchanges between Efron and Charlie Tahan's Sam are entertaining and will inspire a few laughs, but those exchanges are few and far between once the two are in the car crash.

Biography on Zac Efron
Zac Efron's performance was surprisingly pretty good. In spite of the fact that director Burr Steers spends half the film getting the audience acquainted with his eyeballs, Efron is absolutely believable as a young man who has lost everything important to him. The tears felt real, which was very important for the overall tone of the film.
All in all, audiences should wait for DVD for Charlie St. Cloud. It is a solid rental for a girls' night or romantic
Augustus Prew is Charlie's best buddy and graveyard coworker Alastair, who kind of feels like a watered-down Russell Brand with a lisp, but is entertaining nonetheless. Ray Liotta's brief appearance as the paramedic that saved Charlie in the car accident is borderline creepy and filled with a false intensity that is just too far over the top for the mood of this movie. Kim Basinger and Donal Logue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who play Charlie's mom and Tess's boating coach respectively, were just kind of there, floating in the background but not really contributing too much to the film.
The audience will spend most of the rest of the movie staring at really tight close-ups of brooding Zac Efron and his tear-filled eyes. While this will be great for the ladies who are there for eye candy, it takes away from the intended emotion of the film.
