India Wednesday announced a cash reward of one million rupees (20,000 U.S. dollars) each for information on two suspects in 2007 Samjhauta Express blasts, a day after Pakistan officially asked its Islamabad envoy for a progress report on the probe.
"The National Investigation Agency has announced a cash reward of one million rupees for information on Sandeep Dange and Ramchandra Kalsangra, the two suspects in Samjhauta Express blasts in which some 42 Pakistanis were among those killed [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," a senior official said.
Pakistan Tuesday summoned India's Acting Deputy High Commissioner G.V. Srinivas to its Foreign Office and asked for a progress report on the investigations into the case.
A statement put out by the Pakistani Foreign Office said that Islamabad drew the Indian diplomat's attention to reports on the investigations into the blasts.
"It was reiterated to him that the government of Pakistan was awaiting the progress made by the government of India in the investigations," the statement said.
The report was sought in the wake of media reports in India about a jailed leader of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a religious outfit [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Swami Aseemanand [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], admitting to his role in the 2007 blasts.
