Next up is Action, which features Bart about to unleash the hurting on an unsuspecting Lisa. Despite the brilliant facial expressions, I would consider this the weakest of the four, mainly because it's a little far-fetched for Bart to be going over a fence with his skateboard with the shears ready to cut Lisa's cord. Yes, I can hear you saying, "Dude! It's a cartoon!" but I occasionally like some nods towards reality in my animation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ya know what I mean?
The first poster,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], titled Suspense, shows baby Maggie in a highly dangerous position while a sozzled Homer naps on the couch. Gotta love the iconic drool dripping from Homer's lips, and the teddy bear huddled among the piles of empty beer cans.
All in all, a bit of a mixed bag,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in my opinion. But these one-sheets are further proof that Hollywood somehow manages to get it right for foreign consumption, and so, so wrong when it comes to their domestic marketing.
(Source: The Simpsons jumped the shark? Who cares when they can still unleash hilarious posters like this set of four one-sheets, destined for the French market? If Matt Groening and company can match these posters with The Simpsons Movie script, then Fox will have a winner on its hands.
Finally, we see Romance, a very popular subject in France, n'est-ce pas? Of course, this being The Simpsons, there has to be some kind of twist and Homer is showing his love for a hot dog while a less-than-thrilled Marge reads the paper. Although the body language is great, I'm also not as big a fan of this poster. Ultimately Homer and Marge have a (semi) happy marriage with Marge loving Homer despite his many faults. I think I would have preferred an adoring Marge hugging Homer. While he's holding her, he's reaching for a hot dog with an ecstatic expression on his face. That would have gotten the gist of their relationship across far better. But that's just me.
The second one-sheet, called Love, shows Homer and Bart enjoying a prototypically tender moment. Again, Homer with his "What? Oh, nothing to see here. Move along" expression is absolutely priceless.
Fun fact: The Simpsons holds the record for the longest-running North American animated show,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], having aired its 400th episode of May, 2007. Japanese anime Doraemon holds the worldwide record for an animated series with 600 episodes, while Gunsmoke holds the record for the longest-running North American television series, with 635 episodes.
