2 to 3 Large Apples Granny Smith or Jonagold apples with a more firm texture and a mix of tart and sweet work best. Peel, core and sliced.1 1/2 cups flour1/2 tsp. salt1 1/2 tsp baking powder2/3 cup sugar1 tsp. vanilla1/2 cup sour cream1/2 cup brown sugar (dark or light)1/2 tsp. cinnamon3/4 cup butter (One stick plus 1/2 stick)
Serve warm or cold. For an added treat, top with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Allow to cool on rack for half an hour and then gently run a knife around the edge of the cake to loosen. Place a serving plate on top of the cake, face down, and invert the cake. Allow to rest for a moment to release from the pan.
In a separate bowl, stir flour, salt and baking powder together. Stir into butter mixture.
