Up and down Skyhawks fall to Pioneers
OREGON CITY – There were some positives, and way too many negatives, in Southridge’s 12-7 loss to the Oregon City football team on Friday night.
“They executed very well. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] They played physical and their backs ran hard,” Southridge coach Brad Mastrud said of the Pioneers (2-1). “And we just weren’t consistent enough or physical enough.”
The Skyhawks (1-2) fell behind the Pioneers 6-0 in Friday’s first quarter at Oregon City High School, but rallied to lead 7-6 on a four-yard Kyle Grimes run and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] PAT in the second.
But Southridge’s good fortune wouldn’t last. Oregon City – which got its first score on a 25-yard Malcolm Paulston run – added another Paulston TD in the third quarter to provide the final points of the night. This time, Paulston raced 76 yards to score and the Skyhawks couldn’t answer.
“It was a situation where we weren’t [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] consistently good. We did some good things, but we just weren’t consistent,” Mastrud said. “We’ve got to clean that up.”
In his first start since returning [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] from a broken foot, senior quarterback Derek
Keller connected on 8-of-23 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] passes for 62 yards, three of those to Kevin McClean for 21 yards.
For the game, Paulston ran 12 times for 209 yards and Louis Wolf carried 19 times for 101 yards. For Southridge, Grimes [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] carried 18 times for 92 yards while D’von Terry carried 12 times for 52 yards.
On Friday: Southridge at West Salem, 7 p.m.
