Sumo Wrestlers are Big iPad Fans
The sport of sumo wrestling is an ancient Japanese ritual with the first professional tournaments taking place in 1684. Although the sport is ancient, the governing body is proving to be quite modern. According to Reuters, the sumo association will hand out iPads to the 51 official sumo clubs in Japan in the hope of improving communications between wrestlers and the association.
Due to the size of sumo wrestlers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some weighing over 400 pounds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], many have difficulties operating the small buttons on their mobile phones to make calls,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], text or send e-mails.
A sumo’s large hands might be a benefit in the ring but they are a liability when it comes to operating the tiny buttons on the latest generation of gadgets. With its large 10 inch display and touch based interface, the iPad makes an ideal device for this special class of athlete. The iPad should certainly help sumos communicate better with their clubs and who knows, maybe some of these giants will become addicted to Twitter.
We wouldn’t be surprised to hear other top athletes in football or basketball have similar problems with their smartphones. If you know any “large” pro athletes that use the iPad, tell us in the comment section. Go ahead and drop names, we know you want to!
