In keeping with shows like Gas and Hiccups, the small ensemble seems to be the way to go. “I think we’ve got that magic number of characters,” agrees Ewanuick. “Everyone’s going to have their favourite one. And sometimes too many characters can make things scattered. We’ve got about 5 or 6 main ones gucci handbags 2011, plus a couple of recurring supporting cast members. Seems to be a good number.”
You gotta love Fred Ewanuick. Arguably one of Canada’s most endearing television stars, he won over audiences with his portrayal of the dimwitted Hank on Brent Butt’s genius comedy Corner Gas. Now he’s back as another somewhat dopey (but a little less stupid) character in CTV’s new comedic series Dan for Mayor.
Starting off the Week with Dan
Dan’s character may not be as dim as Hank, but he still has that charm. “Playing dumb guys is actually really fun!” laughs Ewanuick. “And Hank was pretty unique in that he was the dumbest character I’ve ever played! But those characters also tend to be the most genuine. Dan’s not so much dumb as he is an aging slacker. He hasn’t quite figured out that it’s time to grow up; what to do with his Ms. Pacman arcade game amounts to a life decision for him.”
Tune in to CTV Monday nights beginning March 1 to catch Hiccups at 8 p.m. and Dan for Mayor at 8:30 p.m. EST.
Co-created and written by three of Canada’s veteran comedy writers, Mark Farrell, Paul Mather and Kevin White gucci outlet sale, DfM centers on small-town bartender Dan Phillips (Ewanuick) who inadvertently finds himself in the running for mayor when he tries to impress his newly engaged ex-girlfriend, Claire (played by Mary Ashton). Not exactly what you would call political material, Dan tries his best to convince everyone around him that he’s a legitimate candidate…not least of all the ex-girlfriend who started it all.
And what a great time slot. Dan for Mayor premiers Monday March 1 at 8:30 p.m. EST and holds that slot following Brent Butt’s new comedy Hiccups and preceding Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory. “I’m really excited about it!” enthuses Ewanuick. “It worked out perfectly that we’re right after Hiccups. CTV has given us a great spot and a great chance.”
The show was actually a long time coming. “Kevin White called me before the last season of Corner Gas, just to gauge my interest in it gucci outlet,” says Ewanuick. “There was almost a year between when we shot the pilot and the first season. It was a really nice surprise when it got picked up.”
