Fiction Editing - Story Sense And Logic |
|
5. Does your story timeline escape true? It's very effortless to have someone in 2 locations in no time if you're not in control of this fussy thread. If you have a sub-plot, or,To Play Better Golf - Putting Consistently Will He, worse still, several sub-plots running, this tin quickly spiral out of control. Use a timeline record to help you control accident timing, i.e. '10 pm Monday - Jake and Sally at Harry's bar. Big Mike robbing bank.' This ensures that Jake and Big Mike don't 'meet up' somewhere by that hour!
Maybe you read my story approximately The Final Draft. Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], before you reach that stage there's this 1 to bring an end to .... It can be hard and you need to be difficult with yourself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], castings one editor's eye - not that of a author - over your work. So what is there to look in while editing and how do you go about it?
Checking the on points will take period, effort and devotion. However, if you do no assure that your story makes sense along to the points on, the merely period you waste will be your own. Why? Simple. Editors today do not expect - and indeed will not stomach - stories that simply don't 'hang together'. The days of droves of sub-editors making agreeable your sloppy work are well and really worked.
4. Do your characters respond believably to circumstances? Again, this goes behind to character behavior - don't have a character brush off a situation if their character canvas says they would go berserk with tantrum at a given event - if this is apparent, your plotting needs to be looked at. Don't alteration your character's reactions to paper over cracks in the plot!
The first thing to do is to publish your story out onto paper. Don't inquire me why merely editing fair doesn't appear to work the same if you do it aboard your microprocessor or word-processor. Then read your story. You might think this a waste of time - after all, you wrote it! - but I assure you that you'll ascertain mistakes, typos and a host of other mini mistakes.
2. Do your characters react to every other as they should? Events in your story may well change the emotions and emotions your characters display towards every other. Do they say memorabilia that have occurred to them among the story? Real people would - your characters should emulate suit.
They're easy to correct. Mark them in pencil as you go along. When you have ended your read through it's time to start editing in earnest. You will have nearly naturally placarded plotting errors and the usual howlers present in each first draft (I speak from experience!) but here's a rundown of vital points to check off during the editing process.
3. Will it be obvious to the reader what the characters are act - and why they are act it? This needs to be made clear to the reader otherwise the 'thread' of the story may be lost totally, your reader will chance confused - and the story, because them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is over.
r story, be it novel, short article or novelette, namely achieved. Or namely it? Before you bring it apt a publisher, retard firstly namely your story makes sense!
So - edit and re-edit. Be savage. Be honest with yourself and your work and you will be streets ahead of those who do not take the time and effort that you do. Writing fiction is hard work - it's up to you to make certain your work is the best it can be. I look inward to watching you in print!
1. Do your characters behave as they ought? Remember that, in fiction,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], folk seldom whether ever act 'out of character' - if your character has changed, this absences consideration.
