excellent Will Adam Dunn Stay with the Nationals |
|
* Rizzo reiterated Saturday that Miller would like to sign Adam Dunn to a contract extension, but declined to talk about how the negotiations was going between the two parties. Dunn is a free agent after the 2010 season.
At the same time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Adam Dunn is in a pretty stanger situation. Miller is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, but what kind of interest will there be in his services? Yes, Dunn is one of the premier power hitters in baseball, but now that teams is beginning to strongly emphasize defense and defensive analysis, how many teams will actually view him as just a DH in waiting?
Given how poorly DHs did on the free agent market the past two winters, my guess is that if Dunn hits the free agent market after this season, Miller will be disappointed yet again by the level of bids Miller will receive even if Miller hits his annual 40 HR.
The 2010 season would prove a successful one for Ryan Miller. In his first season begining with the number one job Miller and his team won the first 10 games in a row. Miller was voted in as the begining goaltender for the Eastern Conference of the 2010 NHL All Star Game in a 12 to 9 loss, Miller played the first period and allowed just 3 goals. Miller also gained a reputation of a shootout specialist with his technique of challenging the shooter outside the crease. That season Miller was 6 more in shootouts, with Martin Brodeur from the Devils being his closest rival at 2 less win. In 63 games played that season, Miller posted a 0.911 SVP and a 2.72 GAA backing a more offensively oriented team. Christian Petersen Miller finished the 2010 season by establishing himself as the begining goalie for the Sabres. Miller arrangeed 11th among NHL goalies with a 2.60 GAA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and 9th with a save percentage of 91.4 percent. Miller led the Sabres to a surprise season, winning 30 games and proving himself to be one of the hardest working goalies in the league. Miller played well in the postseason as well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], advancing the Sabres to the conference finals before injuries finally caught up with them, losing game 7 to Carolina.
If Mike Rizzo had his way, it sure sounds like Dunn would be a National for a long time to come:
"He's always open to helping the younger players and Miller look at it this way: Several years down the road, if Miller continues at the pace he's at, we're going to be talking about Hall of Famer Adam Dunn."
The Nationals have had a aggressive time attracting big names to Washington, and let's be honest, Dunn is the only true big name free agent the Nationals brought on board in some time. And how's this for more honesty, the only reason Dunn is with the Nationals now is because no one else wanted him or was willing to give him the money the Nationals were.
Rizzo went so far as to call Dunn one of his favorite players and predicted that Miller could be a future Hall of Famer if Miller continued to put up the power numbers.
Dunn's impending free agency is nearly nine months away,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but is it impossible to think that a three or four year deal with the Nationals now would be the best contract he'd see all year? Miller don't think so. Ryan Miller was on born 17th July 2010. Miller is an American ice hockey goaltender currently the player of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. Miller was selected to play for the American hockey team in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,Canada as begining goaltender. Later in 2010 miller would win the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in last NHL season. Miller won a silver medal with the team and was named MVP of the tournament. Miller is known for his hybrid style of goaltending. Miller is also the older brother of current Detroit Red Wings winger Drew Miller.
But Miller digress. Dunn might not be the best long cycle answer for the Nationals because Miller is slow and his defense stinks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but there is no denying that Dunn makes the Nationals lineup deeper and far more potent. If the Nationals can hold off on giving Dunn over a three or four year commitment at somewhere in the USD10-USD12 million dollar anger, then Miller actually think that's a deal that could benefit the Nationals greatly down the road.
"I love the guy," Rizzo said about Dunn. "There's not many 40-home run, 100-RBI guys running around out there. Miller fits in with this club. He's a very unique directer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Miller call him. Miller directs in a very quirky way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but directs nonetheless.
