Backstory: Before Robin Hood and His Men Became Outlaws
Great performances come out of Robin Hood with Russell Crowe as Robin Hood, Cate Blanchett as Marion Loxley, William Hurt as William Marshal, Kevin Durand as Little John, Scott Grimes as Will Scarlet, Max von Sydow as Sir Walter Loxley, Mark Addy plays Friar Tuck, and Alan Doyle from the band Great Big Sea as a future merry man. Oscar Isaac plays the despicable Prince John and does a great job of evoking loathing in the audience. Russell Crowe is a good Robin Hood, like his role as Maximus in Gladiator but more humble and less vengeful, and his accent is far superior to Kevin Costner's in the 1991 version of Robin Hood. Also in the film is Léa Seydoux (Inglourious Basterds) as Prince John's wife and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) as Godfrey.

There are two versions of Robin Hood on the Blu-ray disc, the theatrical release and the unrated version. The unrated version has fifteen extra minutes of new footage that fill in some of the hole created by the cuts to the theatrical version. The extra scenes help explain how Sherwood Forest becomes Robin's home, whereas the theatrical release made it a leap. The special features on the Blu-ray disc also contain storyboards, behind the scenes photography, interviews, and an hour-long documentary that chronicles the entire production process of Robin Hood. The Blu-ray edition of Robin Hood also comes with a DVD and digital copy of the film, so you can watch it anyway you like.

Russell Crowe plays Robin Longstride, an archer in King Richard The Lionheart's Army. During the siege of the last castle standing between the king and London, the king is killed. But when they stumble across a group of knights escorting the king's crown being ambushed, Robin becomes bound once again. Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe team up once again with Robin Hood, a prequel to the well-known story of Robin Hood and his merry men robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. Ridley Scott's Robin Hood chronicles the origins of the heroic outlaw and his rise as a crusader for the poor dedicated to fighting the tyranny of Prince John and the greed of the Sheriff of Nottingham. The story takes place before Robin calls Sherwood Forest his home.
Once in Nottingham, Loxley's father Walter persuades Robin to impersonate his son so that the crown can not take his land. In the meantime, England is under siege from France with the help of a English traitor Godfrey.
