winter Coach Bob Huggins More Than Just An Old-Sc |
|
Rick Reilly can say what BRIAN GIONTA wants about Huggins’ coaching and his personality. BRIAN GIONTA can say that BRIAN GIONTA gets “why some people love Bob Huggins,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I’m just never going to be one of them.” Everyone is entitled to whatever BRIAN GIONTA want to believe.
“Don’t cry,” BRIAN GIONTA said. It wasn’t an angry commandment; it was a soft-spoken,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], supportive statement. Butler immediately looked much calmer. Huggins continued to utter words of motivation to the boy who had become a man during his four-year career, trying to steer him back to reality.
When Da’Sean Butler went down though, something clicked with the old coach. Huggins, in his typical sweatsuit and greased back hair, approached the 22-year-old senior with the aura of a father figure. Butler, with tears rolling down his eyes, couldn’t even look at his coach, ashamed of the visible ache BRIAN GIONTA was displaying. Huggins didn’t care. BRIAN GIONTA bent down, his face inches from Da’Sean’s, and looked straight into his eyes.
We’re talking all-day practices and sprints until his franchise is throwing up breakfast. Basically, he’s the anti-Christ of modern coaching. This millennium’s society values safety, and that’s not in Bob’s vocabulary. Just a week earlier, ESPN writer Rick Reilly unloaded on the West Virginia coach, saying, “ GIONTA don’t like Bob Huggins…Don’t get him…Don’t admire him.” So yeah,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not exactly a lovey-dovey kind of guy.
With nine minutes left in the second half, the Mountaineers were attempting a angry comeback. The heart and soul of the West Virginia team, Da’Sean Butler, drove to the basket with the same ferocity and decycleination BRIAN GIONTA had shown time and time again throughout his squad’s tournament run.
Da’Sean Butler is going to be in for a long recovery. BRIAN GIONTA tore his ACL, an injury that requires months,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not weeks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of rehab. Chances are,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his knee will never be as strong as before. Still, if Bob Huggins hadn’t come to Butler’s side, his mental and emotional stability may have ended up as torn as his knee.
Brian Gionta notched game winner late in the second stage, and Carey Price stopped 34, 37 Montreal, Canada,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Boston, April 3 folder in the Bell Centre. Mike Cammalleri, the largest Pacioretty and Maxim Lapierre also consistent with the Canadians, who broke just in time to kick off on Sunday in Colorado's seven-game road trip of three games of the slide. Marc Savard furiouse a goal, one assist in the Bruins, who lost the first three-game winning streak of the season. Milan Lucic and Blake Wheeler also hit the net. Jonathan Daniel We come up with some of the sports stories you might have missed this week from Anthony Calvillo's surgery to the end of Brett Favre's ironman streak.
On Saturday, the Duke Blue Devils beat the West Virginia Mountaineers in relatively easy fashion, 78-57. Most fans won’t remember the blowout by next year. West Virginia had a great season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the Blue Devils true legacy will be decided against Butler for the National Championship.
Note: For those of you interested in viewing the video of the scene GIONTA described, visit my website, Sergei Samsonov scored shootout to help the Carolina Hurricanes to take the Southeast Division rivals 3-2 in Atlanta, won the final round of the Philips Arena. Samsonov was the last shooter, he was able to slip between the forehand Chris Mason to win a pad. Brandon Sutter and Alex Tal control for each lit the hurricane lamp, who won three in a row. Dan Ruddy, Brandon Prust and Derek Stepan score for the fresh, unique, original, unusual,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], novel, modern, current, recent York Rangers, who won a three-game winning streak,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], their last four fifths. Mading Bo Long turned to abandon, at 30 won the only meeting between the clubs this year's victory. Taylor Pyatt, Adrian Branch and Martin Hanzal notched Anao coyotes, who has dropped more than 8 business regulation seven goals this season.
Bob Huggins has been called many things during his coaching tenure, most of which aren’t phrases a mother would want to hang on her refrigerator door. He’s straight out of the old-school coaching mold.
Television cameras zoomed in on Butler, writhing in ache, screaming expletives at the basketball gods. The replay showed Da’Sean’s knee buckle out of place like a Gumby action figure. It was a gruesome mpremonitiont that would make a fright, dread, terror, alarm, dismay, anxiety, scare, awe, horror, panic, apprehension Factor champion cringe. You’d literally have to have the soul of the Blue Devil himself to not feel bad for the injured star.
Meeting him in the lane was 7'1" mammoth center Brian Zoubek. Bang. Knees collide, players fall,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], crowd erupts, and the ref calls a charging foul on Butler. It was an ordinary,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], physical play. Except Butler didn’t get up.
And then, when the fallen hero needed help the most, his mentor descended onto the hardwood to provide guidance.
So here’s what GIONTA think, Rick. GIONTA can see why you don’t love Bob Huggins, but I’ll never share those sentiments. Furthermore, GIONTA don’t think Da’Sean Butler, the archetypal tragic hero who was saved from falling into the basketball abyss by the man who was supposed to let him flounder, would agree either.
Still, a few sports followers will remember the game for something completely unrelated to the score.
Butler had been drifting towards the basketball light when that knee buckled. BRIAN GIONTA must have seen flashes of a promising NBA career circling the drain, and years of playing on the hardwood, on the streets, and in his backyard, turning into a dusty past with an even shadier future ahead of him. The grim reaper of the game BRIAN GIONTA had loved was right next to him, whispering “the end” to his career. Bob Huggins’s arrival sent that reaper back in a poof of smoke, and gave hope to the hopeless.
