22 December, Pune,Police Sunglasses Outlet Online Forensic Video Gam, India - In the latest of a series of Extentia-arranged interactions featuring inspirational speakers, IT entrepreneur Gautam Godse gave a fascinating presentation to Extentia team members and select guests about his personal journey through the world of technology startups. Gautam's visit follows October's session with renowned basketball coach and social entrepreneur JD Walsh.
During the hour-long session, Gautam shared anecdotes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], jokes and experiences spanning his entire career, from his very first computer-related paycheck of Rs. 87 (earned while still in high school) right up to his current position as Software Director at Big Nerd Ranch, Inc.
As an entrepreneur, Gautam is always on the lookout for fresh opportunities. "Take a look at everything around you. There is a problem waiting to be solved," said Gautam. "And the simplest solutions are often the best."
A true pioneer and self-confessed technology geek, Gautam discussed his founding role at a series of startups including JabberWocky, WMINet, moreLinux and musicurry. After stints at NetZero and then Yahoo, he recently rejoined the startup world with Big Nerd Ranch.
Umeed Kothavala (Extentia Director) felt that everyone who took part benefited from the session. "We're delighted to have Gautam to spend some quality time with us - to and share his insights and experiences," he said. "I'm sure that all of us will be inspired by Gautam's example, always thinking creatively when tackling the challenges and opportunities in technology."
Gautam also talked about effectively harnessing the benefits of social networking: "Who you know is more important than what you know." He also affirmed that the key to success is to keep things simple. "Apple's iPhone is a great example. So many manufacturers were trying to cram keyboards onto cellphones, but the iPhone uses a different approach and delivers a great user experience,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said. "Although making things simple is the hardest thing in the world, the payoff can be amazing."
Towards the end of the session, Gautam fielded several questions from the audience, including enquiries about the future of computing, his experiences working with Yahoo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and why he shifted to the US. He also highlighted that innovations such as Amazon Web Services are increasingly making computer processing power "just another utility" - like electricity or gas - much to the benefit of startups who no longer have to invest in expensive infrastructure.
Originally from Pune in India, now based in Los Angeles and "wherever the world will take me with Internet connectivity", the occasion also gave Gautam an opportunity to reflect on a journey that has taken him all over the world while remaining connected with his roots at home. A long time Extentia friend and supporter, Extentia was proud to have him as a speaker and will continue to invite exciting and inspirational visitors in the new year.
